John Botica

John Botica was born in Sydney Australia in April of 1961. A German-Australian based rock musician who has largely existed on the fringes of both the contemporary and alternative rock music genres and despite harnessing a certain individual prowess, both as a guitarist and performer and having a long list of quite interesting and unique bands to his credit, seems yet to have significantly broken through in either. In an interview he gave in 2002, Botica was quoted as saying, "I always seem to be moving the goal posts on myself".

Having first picked up the guitar and forming his first band 'Bad News' in 1977 whilst still in high school, Botica over the ensuing years had been a member of Sydney hard rock band Ironheart and the post punk Labrats (UK) and had collaborated and been associated with quite a diverse and unusual range of musicians and projects, ranging from ex members of The Masters Apprentices and AC/DC, to Widowed Isis (I want to be Jim Morrison fame), to the surreal and late American songster Tiny Tim with whom he appeared on 3 albums and performed on stage in Sydney Australia in 1992-93.

Botica's gritty guitar and deep crooning vocals have appeared on some 9 albums over the years and a host of singles, he has toured the UK, Japan, Germany and South East Asia in the later 90's with the band Good Time Charlie.

Botica currently fronts his own band 'John Botica's Alibi' which has appeared in quite a few different guises due to its frequent personnel changes and was formed in 2000 as a vehicle for material Botica had written and had stored in the cupboard since as far back as the late 70's. It was with this band that he recorded his self produced and somewhat eclectic debut 'Between the Shadows' in 2003. (the album features a rather stunning and obscured version of Fleetwood Mac's Albatross). Between the Shadows was originally released on the Laughing Outlaw record label but failed to gain sufficient radio airplay and general industry support and as a result sold quite minimally. John severed ties with Laughing Outlaw in early 2006.

To date, Botica has been performing in Germany and is also working on new material with views towards a follow up album most probably to be released on his own 'Yelling Elk' label.Permission is granted to copy, distribute and/or modify this document under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 or any later version published by the Free Software Foundation; with no Invariant Sections, with no Front-Cover Texts, and with no Back-Cover Texts.
